When Amira was born, her mother Kacey experienced struggles that are all too common for new moms: post-partum depression, trouble breastfeeding, and discouragement from friends and family members. Challenges like these can threaten the formation of secure parent-child attachment in the critical early days of a child’s life. Luckily, Kacey was referred to Champions for Children’s Baby Café, where she received individualized breastfeeding support from our Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultants, who helped her get her breastfeeding back on track. Kacey also began attending the New Moms Group at Layla’s House, where she both gave and received support from other participants. Today, Kacey says she’s forever grateful to Champions. “They really made being a new mom less stressful. They made me want to be a better mom.”
