Our New Leader at Layla’s House

“Behind the Desk” is a monthly series that gives our community a chance to get to know our staff.
Meet Taisha Edwin-Williams, the new Program Director at Layla’s House! Layla’s House is a community-based learning and resource center that provides playgroups, workshops, developmental checkups, community activities, and support for parents and caregivers of children aged 0-5, as well as for expectant moms and dads. As the program director, she supervises work with the families, and community partners to provide families with the support and resources they need to succeed. Today, she gives us a glimpse of who she is beyond the desk!

Let’s Get to Know Taisha!

Hi Everyone! My name is Taisha Edwin-Williams and I’m the new Program Director at Layla’s House. I am of Trinidad descent and New Jersey born and raised. I am a mother and wife who loves reading a good book, authentic eateries, and traveling.

I am so excited that I have had the opportunity to step into this new role to help impact families with children ages 0-5. My main goal as the new director is to focus on building relationships with the staff, families, and the community at large so that we at Layla’s House can be of greater service and have a greater impact on our clients. Before Champions, I was in program leadership managing programs that served minority populations for girls in grades K-12 in low socio-economic areas. As part of the Outreach team, I facilitated a life-skills based curriculum to help support academic success.

Layla’s House is a strong community support system that provides families with access to many free resources, educational developmental playgroups, and free prenatal services that will help to strengthen the foundation of their families. In the future, I’d like to implement caregiver support workshops and playgroups for teen parents, fathers, and initiate some community service projects with families.
