Did you know Hillsborough County leads the state of Florida in the number of confirmed cases of child abuse and neglect? It’s true. On a typical day, four children will be removed from their family homes due to child abuse and neglect, and one of those will be an infant.
Children who survive child abuse are at dramatically higher risk for academic failure, criminality, mental and physical health challenges, and becoming abusers themselves. There are many amazing programs to help survivors beat these odds – but by the time children reach them, it is too late to spare them their trauma.
That’s why it is never too early to invest in child abuse prevention.
