What to do with Worry: Strategies to Help Parents and Teens, Jan. 17
Champions for Children and Dr. Kirsten Ellingsen are providing a free interactive parent talk. Dr. Ellingsen will present an overview of anxiety for children over 5-years old and offer strategies for parents to support their children and teens to better manage worry and anxiety. Anxiety and worry can be helpful in certain situations, but it becomes problematic when excessive, frequent, or disruptive to daily life. Teaching children strategies for helpful thinking and relaxation can empower them to effectively manage anxiety and its physiological effects.
The talk will help parents:
- Understand anxiety, when it
is useful and when it is not. - Recognize signs and
symptoms of anxiety (how
to help your child/teen
identify body cues). - Notice worry and thoughts
that are unhelpful. - Learn some calming and
relaxation strategies.
