Holiday Family Traditions
Fun family traditions to add as you to celebrate the holidays with your kids this year.
During the holidays, families gather to celebrate and create lasting memories. Family traditions help families stay connected and build strong bonds with each other. They can also help build positive attachments between you and your children. Those attachments help your children become secure, independent, and empathetic as they grow up! Here are a few activities you can add to your family traditions this year to build a strong family bond.
4 Family Traditions You Can Try
1. Decorate together
Whether it’s the Christmas tree, decor around the house, setting up your mantel for Hanukkah, or table for Kwanzaa, let the kids join in! Put those little hands to work while building memories along the way. Making handmade ornaments and decor together is another way to sneak some bonding time into a busy time of year.
2. Host a movie marathon
Who doesn’t love a good holiday movie? Think of all of your family’s favorite holiday-themed movies then either take a weekend to binge them all, or watch one a week leading up to Christmas.
3. Elf on the Shelf
Spread a little holiday magic with an Elf on the Shelf. The traditional purpose of an Elf is to silently watch over your kids as they go about their daily activities so that he or she can catch them being good and report back to Santa. Each day, the elf is moved to a different place in your home. By hiding in a new spot each morning around the house, the scout elf plays an ongoing game of hide and seek with the family.
4. Give Back
One of the most valuable lessons you can teach your children as they get older is the importance of giving back. When it comes to generosity and giving back, there are numerous ways to do so. This holiday season try having your kids sort through their old toys and donate ones they no longer play with to a family in need.
There are many holiday traditions that families do each year to build stronger bonds and spend time with each other. These traditions help center us to remember the reason for this season.
Wishing you a happy holiday season from all of us at Champions for Children!
