Mental Wellness: Tips for Parents
Tips to boost your mental wellness
Did you know that as a parent, your mental wellness has an effect on your child’s mental wellness? Studies show that 1 in 14 children have a parent with poor mental health. This, in turn, can lead to children having poor general health, a mental, emotional, or developmental disability, or adverse childhood experiences.
As a parent, you’re limited on time and energy. Being pulled in so many directions from work, to caring for your children, it’s understandable how your mental wellness can sometimes be put on the back burner. Here are a few tips that even the busiest parent can implement to boost your mental wellness.
3 Tips to boost your mental wellness
1. Prioritize your sleep schedule
Do you implement bedtime routines with your children, but lack the ability to stick to your own? Sleep is such an important part of your health and can affect more than your ability to function. Poor sleep can have a negative impact on your mental health. Try to make it a priority to get your sleep schedule on track.
2. Journal your feelings
Keeping a journal can help you record your experiences, thoughts, or feelings and is a great self-care practice. It can help you gain more self-confidence, and reduce any stress or anxiety you may be experiencing.
3. Be gentle with yourself
Give yourself permission to be perfect at nothing and do the best you can right now. This philosophy reminds us that our version of “best” will look different from time to time and also to not compare yourself with anyone else.
