Grand Opening of Champions’ TALK READ SING Tampa Bay Book Nook

At the George Edgecomb Courthouse

TRS book nook - courthouse

Champions for Children, in collaboration with the Office of the Hillsborough County Clerk of Courts Cindy Stuart, opened its first TALK READ SING Tampa Bay (TRSTB) “Book Nook” at the George Edgecomb Courthouse on Thursday, October 28th. Talk Read Sing Tampa Bay is Champions’ community awareness campaign educating Tampa residents about how talking, reading, and singing to young children strengthens families and promotes child development.

The “Book Nook,” located in the waiting area for family court, will provide families who are there for a court date with access to children’s books, tips, and resources.

“The courthouse being the first location for one of our Book Nooks is a powerful thing,” says Dr. Amy Haile, Executive Director of Champions for Children. “We want to provide something positive for children and families to do while they go through this difficult time in their lives.”

Champions for Children hopes this Book Nook will be the first of dozens in Hillsborough County. One of the core strategies in spreading the TALK READ SING message is building “book corners” in public areas. Health centers, laundromats, and grocery stores are just a few examples of great places for a Book Nook. Any business, nonprofit, or government entity that operates a space where families gather can request a Book Nook by e-mailing info@cfctb.org with the details of the request.
