August is National Breastfeeding Month. Champions for Children offers free lactation consultation services and critical breastfeeding support for families in Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties. Lactation consultants are IBCLC certified by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE).

According to the CDC, breast-fed infants are at reduced risk of type-one diabetes, obesity, asthma, and a wide range of infections. Breastfeeding can also help lower a woman’s risk of high blood pressure, type-two diabetes, breast cancer and ovarian cancer.

Regina Roig Romera, CFC Program Manager, Prenatal & Lactation Services, recently appeared on FOX News 13. She discussed the challenges many mothers experience with breastfeeding and how Champions’ ABC Program offers education, support, and resources to families. Watch more, here!

** Correction:

Regina corrected her on-air statement by saying, “Major health organizations such as the American Academy of Pediatrics recommend exclusive breastfeeding for six months, not six weeks. We apologize for this inadvertent misstatement.”

Services are always free and there are no requirements, although participants are encouraged to register. Visit cfctb.org/abcprogram to learn more!
