We are Champions for Children
A local nonprofit dedicated to preventing child abuse and neglect.
Champions for Children is one of the only organizations in the state of Florida to focus exclusively on preventing abuse and neglect before they even begin. We envision a world without child abuse and neglect. A world where parents have the tools they need to provide a nurturing environment for their children to become productive members of society as adults.
Founded in 1977 with a focus on treating abuse, we broadened our focus to prevention and strengthening families in 2000 to better serve the needs of the community.
Today, Champions is a nationally-accredited agency working to prevent abuse and neglect through the following:
- Improving birth outcomes for pregnant women
- Supporting healthy social-emotional development in infants and children
- Building parental self-confidence
- Ensuring children are developmentally on-track and ready to learn
“I didn’t know anything about being a parent. Champions gave me people that could teach me, love me and cheer me on.”
We Help Those Who Need It Most
We ensure that children are not only safe, but nurtured to develop to their highest potential. This leads to better long-term economic, civic, and health outcomes for our entire community.
- Wide reach: 30,000+ children and parents are served in a typical year
- Early intervention: While we serve children from birth to 18, we focus on the critically important 0-5 years old range.
- Community need: Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties rank among the highest in Florida for the most reported and confirmed cases of child abuse and neglect. Half of daily hotline calls reporting child abuse and neglect are for children five years and younger.
